A new entry in the popular system- and genre-spanning "Rockman" series has been announced. This is an action game with two selectable characters - a boy, Van, and a girl, Eile. The two are able to transform due to the "living metal" excavated from the ruins. This begins a new story!

「ロックマン」シリーズ初の女子主人公エールの実力は!?
What abilities could Eile, the first female protagonist in the Rockman series, have!?

女性主人公登場!
Introducing a female protagonist!

変身前の主人公のようだが、変身条件などがあるのだろうか?
This is how the character looks before the transformation. Could there be special transformation requirements?

EDIT: official artwork

EDIT2: So now I've had time to actually look at the art.

We have two characters here who appear human, Van and Eile (Elle, Aile, Aiel, Ayla, whatever). They might be human or they might be repliroid, but one of the design sketches says "human version" on it. Anyway.

Both of them can transform into X, and in the X transformation reference picture we see a Changer which looks like a flat, handheld item in the general shape and design of X's helmet. The ZX transformation pic is also interesting - the result looks a lot like Zero, but look at the name - "ZX". Clearly visible near Van's hands in the pic are the X Changer and what appears to be a Zero Changer.. which means whoever you -can- transform into, you can also combine forms.

All the art is tagged by Studio A-Cat, which did some spriting work for the Zero series, namely the boss animation in Z2 and Z3. The designs themselves seem to be Nakayama Toru's or intentional imitations of her style. At any rate Inti-Creates seems to be involved, which to me means that I'll need to be buying a DS fairly soon.

Always helping out the Megaman community, eh?

From the concept art, it looks like the transformations are going to be X and Zero forms. I take it neither of them will personally be in the series. Perhaps another alternate universe like EXE?

Speaking of EXE, Van seems to have a hairstyle similar to Megaman.EXE, with a little bit of hair going out from the back of the helmet...

I.H.X was like a backstabbing party to us DS owners, but now that you brought this lil' gem to my knowledge, I am grateful to you.

Dear god does Inafune have no sense at all this seems like the worst idea for a MM game ever

What's wrong with it?

Female protagonsit (we've been waiting for one FOREVER)..
Henshin hero (the series is based on the genre, but the only transformations Rock did were in cutscenes)..

What else do we know? What's not to like?

Actually, it seems more viable a game concept than they've done for the series in almost a decade. Not to say Battle Network wasn't amazing in its own right, but it certainly wasn't a Megaman Legends, or a MMX1 by any means. At least here, there's some immediate fan service on a tangible level. If you don't want to be X as a Boy, be X as a girl. Want to be Zero? okay, be Zero. Want to be both? Knock yourself out.

Yet at the same time, I see elements of Megaman Legends, Zero and Battle Network all present here, all wrapped up together in a nice pretty package that already has me wanting to preorder it.

Now let's just hope we get some halfway decent localizers this time. Capcom seems to be hit-or-miss about getting the games properly translated, which is just a darn shame.

As time goes on, it seems the best way to play these games is to do just that.

Looking at their ears, I'd hazard a guess and say Van and Eile actually are repliroids, since most of the repliroids have the same white things in place of ears.

It's like Power Rangers mixed with Mega Man. Odd.

It's Henshin Hero, not Super Sentai. Think Kamen Rider ^_-
